Our third Julia Chester Emery icon is actually the first that we had created. Over a year ago, the UTO Board decided that since we were creating so many resources for children for General Convention that we needed an image that would appeal to younger audiences. UTO has had the honor of working with Chris Corbin through a UTO grant to Earth & Altar and the first Great EpisGOpal Race, so it seemed like a natural process to ask him to create an image of Julia Chester Emery. The image that Chris created for UTO was available on stickers, tattoos, eyeglass wipes, and pins during General Convention, and some of those will be available at the distribution center this fall. The great news is that Chris has a fantastic Redbubble site where you can purchase the image of Julia Chester Emery on anything from a canvas to a T-shirt to a coffee mug.

The Rev. Chris Corbin grew up in Florida and graduated from Florida Southern College with a B.A., Yale Divinity School with an M.Div., and Vanderbilt University with a Ph.D. He serves as rector of Trinity Episcopal Church in Oshkosh, Wisconsin. Before Trinity, he served as canon to the ordinary, communications director, and director of the Niobrara School for Ministry for the Episcopal Diocese of South Dakota. He is a founder and editor-in-chief of the magazine Earth & Altar and the author of the book, “The Evangelical Party and Samuel Taylor Coleridge’s Return to the Church of England” from Routledge. His wife, the Rev. Portia Corbin, is also a priest serving St. John’s Episcopal Church, New London, Wisconsin. The Corbin household includes two daughters and three cats. In his spare time, Chris enjoys cartooning, graphic design, gardening, and traditional woodworking.
