Update on Dreamer Legislation 2/15/18

Today, the U.S. Senate failed to pass legislation that would protect Dreamers and provide them with a pathway to citizenship. Throughout the week, Senators debated immigration issues and brought bipartisan pieces of legislation to the floor. While a legislative solution for Dreamers has overwhelming public support and members on both sides of the aisle worked toward solutions, ultimately the Senate failed to deliver in part because proposed amendments brought up for a vote included other harmful changes to our immigration system not related exclusively to Dreamers.

The Episcopal Church Office of Government Relations is saddened by this outcome and remains committed to enacting legislation that protects Dreamers, their families, and treats all immigrants with dignity and respect.

The Office of Government Relations will continue to monitor legislation and update you on our webpage.

In the meantime, we thank you for your advocacy on this issue, and we encourage you to tell your members of Congress that you continue to stand with Dreamers. You can deliver this message even while they are on recess next week, as many will be back home in their districts.

We have continuously updated resources for immigrants and allies on our immigration page.
