We invite you to join us as we share new prayers each week for the vulnerable among us facing challenges, fears, and threats. We will name many of the harms unfolding around us and acknowledge what is being erased, lost, and threatened. 

Please join us in prayer and share these prayers with your dioceses and parishes. 

We are one church united in prayer, naming reality in the face of lies, creating space for grief in the face of denial, and freeing space in our souls for hope. We gather to be the body of Christ for one another—bearing one another’s burdens—and pointing the world to the cross and its redemptive power already at work through our witness (even when it may not feel like it).   

These prayers are not a replacement for action; they offer grounding and space to discern what actions each of us feel compelled to take. We may feel called to meet with or contact our elected officials, participate in community organizing, provide services to those in our communities, or join in protests or acts of civil disobedience.

Prayers for April 25

Prayer for Immigrants from Cameroon and Afghanistan 

Loving God, we ask you to be with those immigrants from Cameroon and Afghanistan who have had their Temporary Protected Status rescinded April 7. We lament the fear and sorrow they and their loved ones feel, and the danger many now face if returned to their home countries. Just as our Savior Jesus prayed with and ministered to those not fully embraced by his society, so may your church support and advocate for immigrant populations today. Amen. 

 Prayer for Government Leadership 

Holy God, Three in One, we raise to you our concerns about the consolidation of power in the executive branch of the federal government. We hear and echo the cries of those asking for Congress and the courts to hold fast to the checks and balances that have helped provide for greater safety and equality for the most vulnerable throughout this country’s history. We ask you to grant wisdom and fortitude to state and local leaders, that they may use the authority granted to them justly and in service of those most in need. We fervently pray for the strength and health of our system of government in this pivotal time. Amen. 

Prayer for Those Impacted by Environmental Events 

Creator God, the Earth and all that is in it is yours. We pray for those in Turkey, in New Jersey, and elsewhere who are impacted by earthquakes, fires, and other natural disasters. We pray for those who are harmed by environmental degradation. We lament the ways we have failed to properly care for the Earth, and for the ways climate change makes the lives of so many of our neighbors more challenging. Your Son found solace in a garden on his darkest night; help us to also value the gifts your creation provides and to steward them faithfully. Guide us to maintain the infrastructure, investment, and relationships required to respond to those in need of disaster response and recovery. Amen. 

Prayer for the Democratic Republic of Congo 

Oh, God, in the name of your Son, the Prince of Peace, we offer thanks for the ceasefire between M23 rebels and the government of the Democratic Republic of Congo. We ask for this ceasefire to hold, and then to deepen in line with the Goma call for peace. We lament those who have already suffered death, injury, and loss during the conflict. Blessed are the peacemakers, Lord; guide your church to know how we may play a part in this work. Amen. 

Prayer for Nonprofits 

God of consolation, we lament the cancellations and delays in government grants which have caused so much pain and uncertainty for nonprofit groups in the U.S. and abroad. We mourn with those impacted by the loss of jobs, and we cry out for and with those who rely on the services provided by nonprofits for health, safety, and peace. Hear our pleas, gracious God, and send your Spirit of compassion upon those in power. Amen. 

Oraciones semanales por la política pública y el testimonio

Los invitamos a que se nos unan para compartir nuevas oraciones cada semana por aquellos que son vulnerables entre nosotros quienes enfrentan desafíos, temores y amenazas. Declararemos muchos de los perjuicios que se están fomentando a nuestro alrededor y reconoceremos lo que está siendo anulado, perdido y amenazado. 

Únase a nosotros en oración y comparta estas oraciones con sus diócesis y parroquias. 

Somos una iglesia unida en oración, proclamando la realidad frente a las mentiras, creando espacio para el dolor frente a la negación, y liberando espacio en nuestras almas para la esperanza. Nos reunimos para ser el cuerpo de Cristo ante los demás, llevando las cargas de los demás, y señalando la cruz al mundo y su poder redentor que ya está obrando a través de nuestro testimonio (incluso cuando puede que no se sienta así).   

Estas oraciones no son un reemplazo de la acción; ofrecen la base y el espacio para discernir qué acciones cada uno de nosotros se siente obligado a tomar. Podemos sentirnos llamados a congregarnos o contactar a nuestros funcionarios electos, participar en la organización comunitaria, proveer servicios a los miembros de nuestras comunidades, o unirnos a protestas o actos de desobediencia civil.

Oraciones para la semana del 25 de abril 

Oración por los inmigrantes de Camerún y Afganistán 

Dios de Amor, te pedimos que acompañes a los inmigrantes de Camerún y Afganistán que, desde el 7 de abril, han sufrido la recisión de su Estatus de Protección Temporal. Lamentamos el miedo y la tristeza que ellos y sus seres queridos sienten, y el peligro que muchos ahora enfrentan si regresan a sus países de origen. Así como nuestro Salvador Jesús oró y dedicó su ministerio a favor de aquellos que no eran completamente aceptados por su sociedad, así imploramos que Tu iglesia apoye y abogue por las poblaciones inmigrantes del día de hoy. Amén. 

 Oración por el Liderazgo del Gobierno 

Santo Dios, Padre, Hijo y Espíritu Santo, planteamos ante Tu Presencia nuestras preocupaciones acerca de la consolidación del poder en la rama ejecutiva del gobierno federal. Escuchamos y hacemos eco de los gritos de quienes piden que el Congreso y los tribunales se ciñan a los controles y contrapesos que han ayudado a proporcionar una mayor seguridad e igualdad para los más vulnerables a través de la historia de este país. Te pedimos que le otorgues sabiduría y fortaleza a los líderes estatales y locales, para que puedan usar la autoridad que se les ha conferido justamente al servicio de los más necesitados. Oración por los Afectados por Eventos Ambientales

Oramos por aquellos en Turquía, en Nueva Jersey y en otros lugares que están siendo impactados por terremotos, incendios y otros desastres naturales. Oramos por aquellos que son perjudicados por la degradación ambiental. Lamentamos las maneras en que no hemos podido cuidar adecuadamente de la Tierra, y por las formas en que el cambio climático hace que las vidas de tantos de nuestros prójimos sean más desafiantes. Tu Hijo encontró consuelo en un jardín en su noche más oscura; ayúdanos a valorar también los dones que Tu creación provee y a administrarlos lealmente. Guíanos para mantener la infraestructura, la inversión y las relaciones necesarias para responder a aquellos que necesitan respuesta y recuperación ante desastres. Amén. 

Oración por la República Democrática del Congo 

Oh, Dios, en el nombre de tu Hijo, el Príncipe de la Paz, damos gracias por el cese al fuego entre los rebeldes del M23 y el gobierno de la República Democrática del Congo. Pedimos que se mantenga esta tregua y que se profundice en consonancia con el llamamiento de Goma a la paz. Nos lamentamos por los que ya han sufrido la muerte, las lesiones y las pérdidas durante el conflicto. Bienaventurados los pacificadores, Señor; guía a tu iglesia para saber cómo podemos jugar un papel en esta obra. Amén. 

Oración por las Organizaciones sin Fines de Lucro  

Dios de Consolación, lamentamos las cancelaciones y retrasos en las subvenciones del gobierno que han causado tanto dolor e incertidumbre a los grupos sin fines de lucro en los Estados Unidos y en el extranjero. Lloramos con aquellos afectados por la pérdida de empleos, y clamamos por y con aquellos que dependen de los servicios suministrados por organizaciones sin ánimo de lucro para la salud, la seguridad y la paz. Escucha nuestras súplicas, Dios misericordioso, y envía tu Espíritu de compasión sobre los que están en el poder. Amén.
