We invite you to join us as we share new prayers each week for the vulnerable among us facing challenges, fears, and threats. We will name many of the harms unfolding around us and acknowledge what is being erased, lost, and threatened. 

Please join us in prayer and share these prayers with your dioceses and parishes. 

We are one church united in prayer, naming reality in the face of lies, creating space for grief in the face of denial, and freeing space in our souls for hope. We gather to be the body of Christ for one another—bearing one another’s burdens—and pointing the world to the cross and its redemptive power already at work through our witness (even when it may not feel like it).   

These prayers are not a replacement for action; they offer grounding and space to discern what actions each of us feel compelled to take. We may feel called to meet with or contact our elected officials, participate in community organizing, provide services to those in our communities, or join in protests or acts of civil disobedience.

Prayers for the week of August 29

For Peace with Creation 

Creator God, in this Season of Creation renew in us delight for the Earth and resolve to care for all that you have made. We lament the rolling back of climate protections, the assault on public lands, and the neglect of efforts to heal our wounded planet. Transform our grief into faithful action, that your living creation—singing your praise even as it groans for redemption—may yet flourish. Uphold all who labor and advocate for the care of our common home. Through Christ, in whom all things were created and redeemed. Amen. 

For Civil Hearts and Listening Ears 

God of compassion, your Son Jesus spoke peace to the anxious and gave rest to the weary. In our own nation, public life is often spoiled by anger, division, and reckless words. Raise up leaders who shape their conduct after Jesus, and transform our discourse so that the public square may be marked by civility, fairness, and love. Teach us to use our words for the sake of the suffering, and renew in us the Spirit promised by Jesus—the Spirit who tames our tongues and prepares our minds for the good work you call us to do. Through Jesus Christ our redeemer. Amen. 

For Those Suffering from Famine in the World 

God of healing and wholeness, we remember before you all who suffer from famine, especially those who are starving in Gaza and Sudan. Where any child of yours goes hungry, your Son, our Lord Jesus Christ, is present among them, crying to be fed. Give your church courage to offer bread to the hungry and strength to plead for justice where we cannot.  Soften the hearts of the powerful, that greed and violence may cease, and that your will—not ours—be done on earth as it is in heaven. Through Jesus Christ, who is the Bread of Life, and who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever. Amen. 

For Truth in Public Health 

Almighty God, giver of life and fountain of wisdom, you inspire knowledge for the healing of nations. Bless those who labor to preserve health through life-saving vaccines and public care. Strengthen all who serve with integrity and courage, and guide our leaders to honor truth for the protection of the vulnerable; through Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever. Amen. 

Oraciones semanales por la política pública y el testimonio

Si Dios no fuera mi socorro,

Los invitamos a que se nos unan para compartir nuevas oraciones cada semana por aquellos que son vulnerables entre nosotros quienes enfrentan desafíos, temores y amenazas. Declararemos muchos de los perjuicios que se están fomentando a nuestro alrededor y reconoceremos lo que está siendo anulado, perdido y amenazado. 

Únase a nosotros en oración y comparta estas oraciones con sus diócesis y parroquias. 

Somos una iglesia unida en oración, proclamando la realidad frente a las mentiras, creando espacio para el dolor frente a la negación, y liberando espacio en nuestras almas para la esperanza. Nos reunimos para ser el cuerpo de Cristo ante los demás, llevando las cargas de los demás, y señalando la cruz al mundo y su poder redentor que ya está obrando a través de nuestro testimonio (incluso cuando puede que no se sienta así).   

Estas oraciones no son un reemplazo de la acción; ofrecen la base y el espacio para discernir qué acciones cada uno de nosotros se siente obligado a tomar. Podemos sentirnos llamados a congregarnos o contactar a nuestros funcionarios electos, participar en la organización comunitaria, proveer servicios a los miembros de nuestras comunidades, o unirnos a protestas o actos de desobediencia civil.

Oraciones para la semana del 29 de agosto

Por la Paz con la Creación 

Dios Creador, en este tiempo de creación renueva en nosotros el deleite por la Tierra y la determinación de cuidar todo lo que has hecho. Lamentamos el retroceso de las protecciones climáticas, los ataques a tierras públicas y el descuido de los esfuerzos para sanar nuestro planeta herido. Transforma nuestro dolor en acción fiel, para que Tu creación viviente—cantando Tu alabanza aun cuando gime por la redención—pueda aún florecer. Defiende a todos los que trabajan y abogan por el cuidado de nuestro hogar común. Por Cristo, en quien todas las cosas fueron creadas y redimidas. Amén. 

Por los Corazones Civiles y los Oídos que Escuchan 

Dios de compasión, tu Hijo Jesús le habló de paz a los ansiosos y dio reposo a los cansados. En nuestra propia nación, la vida pública es a menudo estropeada por la ira, la división y las palabras imprudentes. Exalta a líderes que moldeen su conducta por el ejemplo de Jesús, y que transformen nuestro discurso para que la plaza pública pueda estar marcada por la civilidad, la justicia y el amor. Enséñanos a usar nuestras palabras por el bien del sufrimiento, y a renovar en nosotros el Espíritu prometido por Jesús, el Espíritu que doma nuestras lenguas y prepara nuestras mentes para la buena obra que nos llamas a hacer por medio de Jesucristo nuestro redentor. Por Aquellos que Sufren la Hambruna en el Mundo 

Dios de la sanidad y la plenitud, recordamos ante Ti a todos los que sufren de hambre, especialmente a los que están muriendo por inanición en Gaza y Sudán. Donde cualquier criatura tuya pase hambre, Tu Hijo, nuestro Señor Jesucristo, está presente entre ellos, clamando para ser alimentado. Dale valor a tu iglesia para ofrecer pan a los hambrientos y fortaleza para pedir justicia donde no podamos.  Ablanda los corazones de los poderosos, para que cesen la codicia y la violencia, y para que Tu voluntad —no la nuestra— se haga en la tierra como en el cielo. Por Jesucristo, que es el Pan de Vida, y que contigo vive y reina en unidad con el Espíritu Santo, y es Dios, por los siglos de los siglos. Amén. 

Por la Verdad en Salud Pública 

Dios Todopoderoso, dador de vida y fuente de sabiduría, inspiras conocimiento para la sanidad de las naciones. Bendice a aquellos que trabajan para preservar la salud a través de vacunas que salvan vidas y la atención pública. Fortalece a todos los que sirven con integridad y valor, y guía a nuestros líderes a honrar la verdad para la protección de los vulnerables; a través de Jesucristo nuestro Señor, que vive y reina Contigo y el Espíritu Santo, un solo Dios, ahora y para siempre. Amén.
