We invite you to join us as we share new prayers each week for the vulnerable among us facing challenges, fears, and threats. We will name many of the harms unfolding around us and acknowledge what is being erased, lost, and threatened. 

Please join us in prayer and share these prayers with your dioceses and parishes. 

We are one church united in prayer, naming reality in the face of lies, creating space for grief in the face of denial, and freeing space in our souls for hope. We gather to be the body of Christ for one another—bearing one another’s burdens—and pointing the world to the cross and its redemptive power already at work through our witness (even when it may not feel like it).   

These prayers are not a replacement for action; they offer grounding and space to discern what actions each of us feel compelled to take. We may feel called to meet with or contact our elected officials, participate in community organizing, provide services to those in our communities, or join in protests or acts of civil disobedience.

Prayers for the week of June 27

For Endurance and Peace in Ukraine 

Merciful God, your son taught us of a widow who would not cease pleading for justice from an unyielding judge. People around the world continue praying for the people of Ukraine as their land is ravaged by war and their hearts weighed down with grief. God who listens and redeems, we pray again with the people of Ukraine for a true and lasting peace in their land and a just end to this war. May the fire of your Spirit rekindle in us a hope that burns anew each day. Through Christ, who knows every pain and hears every cry. Amen. 

For Vulnerable People in a Warming World 

Almighty God, creator of heaven and earth, who made all things good and in whom all creation holds together. We lift up all those who suffer amid intensifying heat. We pray especially for the poor, the elderly, and the unhoused. In a warming world, may your mercy sustain those most at risk, and may your Spirit awaken in us a reverence for your creation. Remind us that to love our neighbor is to honor the earth you have entrusted to our care. Give each of us the wisdom and courage to deal justly with the planet’s resources so all of creation might thrive; through him who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever. Amen. 

For the Democratic Republic of Congo 

O God of unsearchable wisdom, our refuge and strength, you make your presence felt in times of trouble, and you desire peace for all your children. Look with mercy upon your people in the Democratic Republic of Congo as their leaders sign a peace agreement with Rwanda in Washington, D.C. We pray for a speedy process, and the safe return of refugees and those internally displaced. Through Jesus Christ our unfailing shepherd, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever. Amen. 

For a True and Lasting Ceasefire 

God of steadfast love, your son was born into a world of strife, violence, and fear. But his steadfast love touched people across lines of religious and political identity. Lord Jesus, we pray that the fragile ceasefire between Israel and Iran holds. Pour out your boundary-crossing and world-upending love on all people affected by this conflict. Let that same love break through walls of hostility. Transform our fear and despair into that peace that only you can bring. Grant this, O Lord, for the honor of your name. Amen. 

For The Wounded Body of Christ in Syria 

God of consolation, we weep with the community of Saint Elias Church in Damascus, Syria, who mourn the loss of loved ones and bear wounds from a recent suicide attack. Your son was lifted high upon the cross for the sake of the whole world. His body, your church, still suffers on earth. Be with the broken and do not forsake those who are attacked or killed in your name. Renew the courage of your people in Damascus; make them bold for the sake of the Gospel. Let the whole body of Christ be a light proclaiming love in the face of hate, and hope in the face of fear, as we wait for the coming of Jesus Christ our Redeemer; who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever. Amen. 

Oraciones semanales por la política pública y el testimonio

Los invitamos a que se nos unan para compartir nuevas oraciones cada semana por aquellos que son vulnerables entre nosotros quienes enfrentan desafíos, temores y amenazas. Declararemos muchos de los perjuicios que se están fomentando a nuestro alrededor y reconoceremos lo que está siendo anulado, perdido y amenazado. 

Únase a nosotros en oración y comparta estas oraciones con sus diócesis y parroquias. 

Somos una iglesia unida en oración, proclamando la realidad frente a las mentiras, creando espacio para el dolor frente a la negación, y liberando espacio en nuestras almas para la esperanza. Nos reunimos para ser el cuerpo de Cristo ante los demás, llevando las cargas de los demás, y señalando la cruz al mundo y su poder redentor que ya está obrando a través de nuestro testimonio (incluso cuando puede que no se sienta así).   

Estas oraciones no son un reemplazo de la acción; ofrecen la base y el espacio para discernir qué acciones cada uno de nosotros se siente obligado a tomar. Podemos sentirnos llamados a congregarnos o contactar a nuestros funcionarios electos, participar en la organización comunitaria, proveer servicios a los miembros de nuestras comunidades, o unirnos a protestas o actos de desobediencia civil.

Oraciones para la semana del 27 de junio

Por la resistencia y la paz en Ucrania 

Dios misericordioso, Tu hijo nos enseñó sobre una viuda que no dejaría de pedirle justicia a un juez inflexible. La gente de todo el mundo continúa orando por el pueblo de Ucrania mientras su tierra es devastada por la guerra y sus corazones están llenos de dolor. Dios que escucha y redime, rezamos nuevamente con el pueblo de Ucrania por una paz verdadera y duradera en su tierra y por un justo fin a esta guerra. Que el fuego de Tu Espíritu reavive en nosotros una esperanza que se encienda de nuevo cada día. A través de Cristo, que conoce cada dolor y oye cada grito. Amén. 

Para las personas vulnerables en un mundo con temperaturas al alza  

Dios Todopoderoso, creador del cielo y de la tierra, que hizo buenas todas las cosas y en quien toda la creación se mantiene unida. Elevamos a todos los que sufren en medio de olas de calor cada vez más intensas. Oramos especialmente por los pobres, los ancianos y los indigentes. En un mundo que afronta el calentamiento, que Tu misericordia sostenga a los que están en mayor riesgo, y que Tu Espíritu despierte en nosotros un sentido de reverencia por Tu creación. Recuérdanos que amar a nuestro prójimo es honrar la tierra que has confiado a nuestro cuidado. Danos a cada uno de nosotros la sabiduría y el valor para gestionar de manera justa los recursos del planeta para que toda la creación pueda prosperar; a través de Aquel que vive y reina contigo y el Espíritu Santo, un solo Dios, ahora y para siempre. Amén. 

Por la República Democrática del Congo 

Oh, Dios de insondable sabiduría, nuestro refugio y fortaleza, haces sentir Tu presencia en tiempos de angustia, y deseas paz para todos Tus hijos. Mira con ojos de misericordia a Tu pueblo en la República Democrática del Congo mientras sus dirigentes firman un acuerdo de paz con Ruanda en Washington, D.C. Oramos por un proceso rápido y el regreso seguro de los refugiados y los desplazados internos. A través de Jesucristo nuestro pastor infalible, que vive y reina contigo y con el Espíritu Santo, un solo Dios, por los siglos de los siglos. Amén. 

Por un verdadero y duradero cese al fuego 

Dios de amor inquebrantable, Tu hijo nació en un mundo de lucha, violencia y miedo. Pero su amor inquebrantable tocó a la gente a través de líneas de identidad religiosa y política. Señor Jesús, oramos para que el frágil cese al fuego entre Israel e Irán se mantenga. Disemina tu cruce de fronteras y tu amor que cambia al mundo sobre todas las personas afectadas por este conflicto. Que ese mismo amor rompa las paredes de la hostilidad. Transforma nuestro miedo y desesperación en esa paz que solo Tú puedes prodigar. Concede esto, oh, Señor, por el honor de Tu nombre. Amén. 

Por el cuerpo herido de Cristo en Siria 

Dios de consuelo, lloramos con la comunidad de la Iglesia de San Elías en Damasco, Siria, que llora la pérdida de seres queridos y soporta heridas de un reciente ataque suicida. Tu hijo fue levantado en lo alto de la cruz por el bien del mundo entero. Su cuerpo, Tu iglesia, todavía sufre en la tierra. Acompaña a los quebrantados y no abandones a los que son atacados o asesinados en Tu nombre. Renueva el valor de Tu pueblo en Damasco; concédeles valor por medio del Evangelio. Que todo el Cuerpo de Cristo sea luz que proclame amor frente al odio, y esperanza frente al temor, mientras esperamos la venida de Jesucristo nuestro Redentor, que vive y reina a Tu lado y el Espíritu Santo, un solo Dios, ahora y para siempre. Amén.
