We invite you to join us as we share new prayers each week for the vulnerable among us facing challenges, fears, and threats. We will name many of the harms unfolding around us and acknowledge what is being erased, lost, and threatened. 

Please join us in prayer and share these prayers with your dioceses and parishes. 

We are one church united in prayer, naming reality in the face of lies, creating space for grief in the face of denial, and freeing space in our souls for hope. We gather to be the body of Christ for one another—bearing one another’s burdens—and pointing the world to the cross and its redemptive power already at work through our witness (even when it may not feel like it).   

These prayers are not a replacement for action; they offer grounding and space to discern what actions each of us feel compelled to take. We may feel called to meet with or contact our elected officials, participate in community organizing, provide services to those in our communities, or join in protests or acts of civil disobedience.

Prayers for the week of September 12

For an End to Political Violence 

God of mercy and peace, we grieve for all lives lost to political violence. Comfort all families who have experienced such loss and those who experience threats of violence. Grant us self-control in political discourse, that anger and fear do not lead us into harm. Stir our hearts toward compassion, and bless us with the gift of understanding, that we may listen and not judge. Lord, guard us from the pride that built the Tower of Babel, and unite us in patience and humility—building together for the good of all. We trust in your justice and your steadfast love, through Jesus Christ our Prince of Peace. Amen.  

For Equal Rights and Protection of Freedoms Under the Law 

O God, our creator, you have made all people in your image and redeemed us in Christ. We lament that due to a recent Supreme Court order, federal immigration agents are able to target neighbors without reasonable suspicion by race, ethnicity, or economic standing. Forgive us when we treat the other as less than ourselves. Protect our neighbors from harm and guard us from using privilege and power to deny justice to others. Lead us to repentance and reconciliation and rekindle in us the desire to love and serve all your children as we love and serve you. Through Jesus Christ, who makes us one human family in his body, we pray. Amen.   

For Layan Nasir and All Who Are Unjustly Detained 

God of love and justice, we lift before you Layan Nasir, our Anglican Palestinian sister, and all people who have been and are in detention. We bring to you our protest for all who are sentenced without a fair trial. Though hidden from our sight, they are visible to you. Grant humane treatment and swift, fair justice. Surround them with your angels, as you did for the Apostle Paul in prison, that they may know your presence. Strengthen the voices of advocates who cry out for their release, and soften the hearts of captors, that they may see all people as your children worthy of dignity and belonging in your kingdom on earth. Through Jesus Christ, who came to set the captives free, we pray. Amen.  

For Restoration of Wisdom and Renewal of Our Call to Care for Creation 

God of wisdom, you made us to delight in and tend your creation. We give you thanks for the ability to study and steward its wonder. We lament all the ways that scientific research has been affected by funding cuts and uncertainty, especially research that would help us address climate change and protect biodiversity. Forgive our shortsightedness, our greed, and the falsehoods and confusion that lead to harmful decisions. Enlighten our paths with your mercy, compassion, and truth. Give us boundaries that enable us to walk as wise tenders of your earthly garden in harmony with your creation. Through Jesus Christ, our companion and friend. Amen. 

Oraciones semanales por la política pública y el testimonio

Si Dios no fuera mi socorro,
ya habitaría yo en el reino del silencio.

Los invitamos a que se nos unan para compartir nuevas oraciones cada semana por aquellos que son vulnerables entre nosotros quienes enfrentan desafíos, temores y amenazas. Declararemos muchos de los perjuicios que se están fomentando a nuestro alrededor y reconoceremos lo que está siendo anulado, perdido y amenazado. 

Únase a nosotros en oración y comparta estas oraciones con sus diócesis y parroquias. 

Somos una iglesia unida en oración, proclamando la realidad frente a las mentiras, creando espacio para el dolor frente a la negación, y liberando espacio en nuestras almas para la esperanza. Nos reunimos para ser el cuerpo de Cristo ante los demás, llevando las cargas de los demás, y señalando la cruz al mundo y su poder redentor que ya está obrando a través de nuestro testimonio (incluso cuando puede que no se sienta así).   

Estas oraciones no son un reemplazo de la acción; ofrecen la base y el espacio para discernir qué acciones cada uno de nosotros se siente obligado a tomar. Podemos sentirnos llamados a congregarnos o contactar a nuestros funcionarios electos, participar en la organización comunitaria, proveer servicios a los miembros de nuestras comunidades, o unirnos a protestas o actos de desobediencia civil.

Oraciones para la semana del 12 de septiembre

Por el fin de la violencia política 

Dios de misericordia y paz, lamentamos todas las vidas que se han perdido a causa de la violencia política. Reconforta a todas las familias que han sufrido estas pérdidas y a quienes sufren amenazas de violencia. Concédenos autocontrol en el discurso político, para que la ira y el temor no nos guíen hacia el mal. Despierta nuestros corazones hacia la compasión, y bendícenos con el don de la comprensión, para que podamos escuchar y no juzgar. Señor, guárdanos de la soberbia que construyó la Torre de Babel, y únenos en la paciencia y la humildad, para construir juntos por el bien de todos. Confiamos en tu justicia y en tu amor inquebrantables, por Jesucristo, nuestro Príncipe de la Paz. Amén.  

Por la igualdad de derechos y la protección de las libertades ante la ley 

Oh Dios, creador nuestro, que creaste a todos los hombres a tu imagen y semejanza y nos has redimido en Cristo. Lamentamos que, debido a una reciente orden del Tribunal Supremo, los agentes federales de inmigración puedan detener, sin tener una sospecha razonable, a las personas por su raza, etnia o situación económica. Perdónanos cuando tratamos al prójimo como si fuera menos que nosotros mismos. Protege del mal a nuestros vecinos y evita que utilicemos nuestros privilegios y nuestro poder para negarles la justicia a los demás. Condúcenos al arrepentimiento y a la reconciliación, y reaviva en nosotros el deseo de amar y servir a todos tus hijos en la misma forma en que te amamos y te servimos a ti. Te lo rogamos por Jesucristo, que nos convierte en una sola familia humana en su cuerpo. Amén.   

Por Layan Nasir y todos los que están detenidos injustamente 

Dios de amor y justicia, elevamos ante ti a Layan Nasir, nuestra hermana anglicana palestina, y a todas las personas que han estado y están detenidas. Te presentamos nuestra protesta por todos los que han sido condenados sin un juicio justo. Aunque ocultos a nuestra vista, son visibles para ti. Concédeles un trato humano, así como una justicia rápida y equitativa. Rodéales de tus ángeles, como hiciste con el apóstol Pablo en prisión, para que conozcan tu presencia. Fortalece las voces de los defensores que claman por su liberación, y ablanda los corazones de los captores para que puedan ver a todas las personas como hijos tuyos, que merecen tener dignidad y pertenecer a tu reino en la tierra. Te lo pedimos por Jesucristo, que vino a liberar a los cautivos. Amén.  

Por el restablecimiento de la sabiduría y la renovación de nuestro llamado al cuidado de la creación 

Dios de sabiduría, nos hiciste para deleitarnos en tu creación y para cuidarla. Te damos gracias por la capacidad de estudiar y administrar sus maravillas. Lamentamos todas las formas en que la investigación científica se ha visto afectada por los recortes de financiamiento y la incertidumbre, especialmente la investigación que nos ayudaría a abordar el cambio climático y proteger la biodiversidad. Perdona nuestra miopía, nuestra codicia y las falsedades y confusiones que nos llevan a tomar decisiones perjudiciales. Ilumina nuestro camino con tu misericordia, compasión y verdad. Márcanos límites que nos permitan caminar como sabios cuidadores de tu jardín terrenal en armonía con tu creación. Por Jesucristo, nuestro compañero y amigo. Amén.
