We invite you to join us as we share new prayers each week for the vulnerable among us facing challenges, fears, and threats. We will name many of the harms unfolding around us and acknowledge what is being erased, lost, and threatened. 

Please join us in prayer and share these prayers with your dioceses and parishes. 

We are one church united in prayer, naming reality in the face of lies, creating space for grief in the face of denial, and freeing space in our souls for hope. We gather to be the body of Christ for one another—bearing one another’s burdens—and pointing the world to the cross and its redemptive power already at work through our witness (even when it may not feel like it).   

These prayers are not a replacement for action; they offer grounding and space to discern what actions each of us feel compelled to take. We may feel called to meet with or contact our elected officials, participate in community organizing, provide services to those in our communities, or join in protests or acts of civil disobedience.

Prayers for the week of August 1

For Weary Peace Advocates 

God of justice, you gave your prophets bold voices and strength when they spoke truth in lands that rejected them. We turn to you with heavy hearts as the news bears constant witness to cruelty, violence, and fear, and your peace advocates are weary. Make your prophets and public witnesses steadfast, not conforming to the ways of this world in complacency, but always shaped by the hope of your kingdom. Renew their strength in the face of insult and injury. Elevate their hearts, rooted in your peace, so that their voices may echo your justice. In the name of Christ. Amen. 

For Good Governance and Diplomacy 

God of truth and justice, when many in authority turn a blind eye to corruption and unjust rule, turn our hearts to you, the source of righteousness and peace. Grant that those who serve in diplomacy and governance may seek not merely the interest of nations, but the flourishing of all people. Make them instruments of truth, defenders of equity, and faithful stewards of the common good. Guide their words and actions that they may reflect your kingdom values in every place of power; through Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you, in the unity of the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever. Amen. 

For the Dignity and Rights of the Unhoused 

Loving God, you sent your Son Jesus Christ into the world in humility, with no place to lay his head, living among the unhoused, and dependent on the welcome of others. His ministry was not marked by palaces, but by poverty. You have shown us that your heart is with those on the margins. We lament the effort to conflate the unhoused with criminals and to forcibly remove them from the streets using involuntary commitment. Help us recognize not only their dignity, but your very presence in their faces and in their stories. Through Christ our Lord. Amen. 

For the Gift of Medical Research 

God of world-changing gifts, you have given us the grace to learn from your creation and to develop knowledge that brings healing and hope. Through the work of medical research, we glimpse your desire for wholeness and life abundant. Amid threatened cuts to this sacred labor, renew our joy in the pursuit of wisdom for the sake of others. Strengthen those who advocate for the just and faithful use of resources and protect those whose lives hang in the balance. All this we ask through Jesus Christ, our Lord, the great physician. Amen. 

For Victims of Gun Violence 

God of peace and compassion, we are heartbroken by the unrelenting toll of gun violence in our land. Receive our lament and carry what we cannot bear in our grief, anger, and confusion. Strengthen us to labor for a world where such violence is no more. You have revealed to us a kingdom where fear and death give way to hope and life everlasting. Shape us into messengers of this good news, that our communities may choose the path to you, the source of all peace; through Jesus Christ, our Lord. Amen. 

Oraciones semanales por la política pública y el testimonio

Si Dios no fuera mi socorro,

Los invitamos a que se nos unan para compartir nuevas oraciones cada semana por aquellos que son vulnerables entre nosotros quienes enfrentan desafíos, temores y amenazas. Declararemos muchos de los perjuicios que se están fomentando a nuestro alrededor y reconoceremos lo que está siendo anulado, perdido y amenazado. 

Únase a nosotros en oración y comparta estas oraciones con sus diócesis y parroquias. 

Somos una iglesia unida en oración, proclamando la realidad frente a las mentiras, creando espacio para el dolor frente a la negación, y liberando espacio en nuestras almas para la esperanza. Nos reunimos para ser el cuerpo de Cristo ante los demás, llevando las cargas de los demás, y señalando la cruz al mundo y su poder redentor que ya está obrando a través de nuestro testimonio (incluso cuando puede que no se sienta así).   

Estas oraciones no son un reemplazo de la acción; ofrecen la base y el espacio para discernir qué acciones cada uno de nosotros se siente obligado a tomar. Podemos sentirnos llamados a congregarnos o contactar a nuestros funcionarios electos, participar en la organización comunitaria, proveer servicios a los miembros de nuestras comunidades, o unirnos a protestas o actos de desobediencia civil.

Oraciones para la semana del 1 de agosto

Por los exhaustos Defensores de la Paz 

Dios de justicia, diste a tus profetas voces audaces y fuerza cuando declararon la verdad en tierras que los rechazaron. Nos dirigimos a Ti con corazones apesadumbrados mientras las noticias dan testimonio constante de la crueldad, la violencia y el miedo, y Tus defensores de la paz están cansados. Dales firmeza a Tus profetas y testigos públicos, quienes no se ciñen a los caminos de este mundo en el conformismo, sino que toman forma siempre moldeados por la esperanza de Tu reino. Renueva su fortaleza ante el insulto y la lesión. Eleva sus corazones, arraigados en Tu paz, para que sus voces hagan eco de Tu justicia. En el nombre de Cristo. Amén. 

Por el buen gobierno y la diplomacia 

Dios de verdad y justicia, cuando muchos con autoridad hacen la vista gorda ante la corrupción y el gobierno injusto, vuelve nuestros corazones hacia ti, la fuente de justicia y paz. Concédeles a quienes sirven en la diplomacia y la gobernanza que no solo busquen el interés de las naciones, sino el florecimiento de todos los pueblos. Hazlos instrumentos de la verdad, defensores de la equidad y fieles gestores del bien común. Guía sus palabras y acciones para que reflejen los valores de Tu reino en cada lugar de poder; por Jesucristo nuestro Señor, que vive y reina contigo, en la unidad del Espíritu Santo, un solo Dios, ahora y para siempre. Por la dignidad y los derechos de los desalojados 

Dios amado, enviaste a tu Hijo Jesucristo al mundo con humildad, sin un lugar para recostar su cabeza, viviendo entre los desamparados y dependiendo de la acogida de los demás. Su ministerio no estaba marcado por palacios, sino por la pobreza. Tú nos has mostrado que tu corazón está con los marginados. Lamentamos el esfuerzo por confundir a los desalojados con los delincuentes y sacarlos por la fuerza de las calles mediante el compromiso involuntario. Ayúdanos a reconocer no solo su dignidad, sino su presencia en sus rostros y en sus historias. A través de Cristo nuestro Señor. Amén. 

Por el don de la investigación médica 

Dios de los dones que cambian el mundo, Tú nos has dado la gracia de aprender de Tu creación y desarrollar conocimiento que genera sanidad y esperanza. A través del trabajo de la investigación médica, vislumbramos Tu deseo de plenitud y vida abundante. En medio de las amenazas de recortes presupuestales para este trabajo sagrado, renovamos nuestra alegría en la búsqueda de la sabiduría por el bien de los demás. Fortalece a quienes abogan por el uso justo y fiel de los recursos y protege a aquellos cuyas vidas penden de la balanza. Todo esto lo pedimos a través de Jesucristo, nuestro Señor, el gran sanador. Amén. 

Por las víctimas de la violencia armada 

Dios de paz y compasión, estamos desconsolados por el nivel implacable de violencia armada en nuestra tierra. Recibe nuestro lamento y carga lo que no podemos soportar en nuestro dolor, ira y confusión. Fortalécenos para trabajar por un mundo donde esa violencia ya no exista. Nos has revelado un reino donde el miedo y la muerte dan paso a la esperanza y a la vida eterna. Haznos mensajeros de estas buenas nuevas, para que nuestras comunidades elijan el camino hacia Ti, la fuente de toda paz, por medio de Jesucristo, nuestro Señor. Amén.
