Young Adult and Campus Ministries

The Office of Young Adult and Campus Ministries supports ministries of, to, and with young adults (ages 18-30) both on and off college campuses through the communities, resources and networks of the Episcopal Church. Through leadership development, networking across the church, gathering online and in person, and and offering support through each diocese and province, we strive to create a community of leaders and young adults engaged in mission and ministry together.

Young Adult Ministry in the church at large takes the form of parish-based young adult groups for worship, fellowship, mission and study; young adult internships and intentional living through the Episcopal Service Corps; diocesan retreats and gatherings; engaging and training young adults in the polity of the church; mentoring and discernment programs; and young adult pilgrimages and mission experiences.

Campus ministry includes all students attending places of higher learning at colleges, universities, tribal colleges, technical schools, and community colleges.  Sometimes referred to as “Canterbury Club” or “Episcopal Campus Ministry” (ECM), it includes all chaplains, campus ministers, and faculty. It provides programming, networks (diocesan, provincial, churchwide, and ecumenical), advocacy, and resources for those doing ministry on college and university campuses.

Episcopal Church Presiding Bishop and Primate Michael Curry will join conference participants on Monday to preach and discuss the importance of young adult and campus ministry.

In early March, the application process for the 2017-18 Young Adult and Campus Ministry Grants will open. Before filling out your application, we invite you to a time of discernment, reflection, and planning.

Developing a grant application is best done in a community where colleagues and supporters can discern and explore where God is calling your ministry to grow, change, or do something new. If you are a solo minister, we invite you to think about who you should gather together to help you in this process. Many turn to their board or vestry, advisors, student ministers, and/or colleagues from your school or diocese to begin praying and exploring together.

We invite you to download this Grant Discernment and Planning Guide and begin to work with your community to discover where God is calling you to do something new or grow something that has already been started.

The applications will be out the first week of March and the deadline for accepting applications is April 10, 2017 at 10 p.m. Eastern time.
