Churches Beyond Borders is a full-communion body composed of The Episcopal Church, the Anglican Church of Canada, the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America, and the Evangelical Lutheran Church of Canada. The Episcopal Church’s General Convention formalized these relationships in 2022 in a Memorandum of Mutual Recognition of Relations of Full Communion.
The ecumenical partnership was formed to strengthen the four churches’ ability to work on social justice projects together. These have included an Advent Call to Address Racism and White Supremacy, a call to educate Christians about the ongoing effects of the Doctrine of Discovery, the development of joint devotionals related to the United Nations’ 16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence, and advocacy for an end to violence in the Holy Land.
