Episcopal Church Response to War in Gaza

The Episcopal Church is committed to peace and human dignity in all contexts. Church center staff, guided by the mandates of our triennial General Convention, lift up issues of conflict, human rights violations, and crises in the United States and around the world. This work takes place in conversation and partnership with the Anglican Communion provinces and coalitions of ecumenical, interfaith, and secular partners.

To learn more about all Episcopal Church resolutions on the conflict in the Holy Land, see pages 17-21 of this Policy for Action Index.

A direct perspective on the ongoing war in Gaza and the West Bank through an interview with Father Fadi Diab, parish priest in Ramallah and vice chair of Al Ahli Hospital in Gaza. Many of you already know Father Fadi speaks with honesty, clarity, and conviction about the daily realities of the Palestinian people, the challenges facing the Christian Church, and the urgent need for genuine efforts toward peace—not just words.

With special guests The Rev. Canon Leyla King — Episcopal priest, author, Palestinian American, small church advocate, and co-founder of Palestinian Anglicans and Clergy Allies, Hassan El-Tayyab — Legislative Director for Middle East Policy, Friends Committee on National Legislation, and Kyle Cristofalo — Head of DC Office and Senior Director of Advocacy and Government Relations, Churches for Middle East Peace (CMEP).

The Episcopal Church’s Office of Government Relations with special guest the Very Rev. Canon Richard Sewell, dean of Saint George’s College in Jerusalem. He spoke about the humanitarian crisis in Gaza, ongoing violence and oppression in the West Bank, and the plight of Palestinian Christians.

Good Friday Offering

The Good Friday Offering is a long-standing initiative by The Episcopal Church, begun in 1922, to support Christian ministries in the Middle East through pastoral care, education, and healthcare. It funds vital institutions like hospitals, schools, and churches that serve people of all faiths, promoting peace and reconciliation. Donations help sustain the Christian presence in the Holy Land and support humanitarian efforts in places like Gaza, Iraq, and Yemen.

  • Over the past two years, the Good Friday Offering collected almost a million dollars in support of the ministries of the three dioceses of the Province of Jerusalem and the Middle East.

Private Meetings

  • The Office of Government Relations’ staff regularly meet with U.S. government officials and policymakers, including members of Congress and their staff.

Coalition Work

A key way The Episcopal Church carries out its witness is with ecumenical, interfaith, and secular coalitions dedicated to the same goals. We are for example a founding member of Churches for Middle East Peace. You can find more information here

Human Rights Investment Screen

The Episcopal Church also has human rights investment screens in a range of conflict and high-risk areas. For more information about socially responsible investing, visit here.
