Music written for the Santa Rosalia festivities in Palermo was often destroyed after the initial performance, underlining the ephemeral character of the event. Thanks to a repeat performance in Modena the year following its 1687 premiere, NYBI is able to resurrect and give the modern-day premiere of the monumental Santa Rosalia, one of four surviving oratorios by Bonaventura Alliotti, featuring three sopranos, alto, tenor, bass, and string orchestra.
