It’s Friday night: you made it through the week, the kids are hungry, and you’re too tired to cook. Bring the whole family to Charlotte’s Place (107 Greenwich Street in Lower Manhattan) at 6 PM on the third Friday of the month for free Family Friday Pizza & Movie Night.

July’s movie is Matilda, the darkly comical tale of a very gifted little girl whose genius and telekinetic abilities enable her to triumph over her terrible parents and school principal, based on the book by the inimitable Roald Dahl.

August’s movie is the Academy Award-nominated animated picture, The Secret of Kells, a medieval adventure story about young Brendan and his quest to finish the illumination of a mystical Irish manuscript, the Book of Kells.  Along the way, he encounters fierce Vikings, a subterranean beast and a girl with magical powers.  New York Times critic A.O. Scott lauded the film’s craftsmanship, writing that “it is only fitting that a movie concerned with the power and beauty of drawing — the almost sacred magic of color and line — should be so gorgeously and intricately drawn.”

Charlotte’s Place is a free community space in Lower Manhattan.  Open to everyone, it is supported and operated by Trinity Wall Street, an Episcopal parish in the city of New York.
